The University of Mumbai is committed to nurturing and fostering not only academic excellence but also the psychological well-being personal growth and career readiness of its students. In today’s fast-paced academic and social landscape students encounter diverse pressures related to studies, career choices, relationships, and mental health. Acknowledging this need the University of Mumbai has launched Mumbai University - Psychological Resilience Assessment for Development and Nurturing of Young Adults (MU-PRADNYA). MU-PRADNYA is a comprehensive Online Psychological Assessment Programme conceptualised by Dr. Vivek Belhekar, Professor and Head, Department of Applied Psychology, and supported by the Hon. Vice-Chancellor. This initiative benefits students and affiliated colleges. This free, scientifically grounded and multilingual programme is designed to support both individual students and academic institutions in making informed ethical and timely decisions.
Mumbai online Psychometrics Center (M-OPC) has been doing online psychometrics assessment for the last five years. It has provided psychological assessment services to more than 200 colleges and Universities, and more than 15,000 students. The M-OPC has a mandate to develop online, open, multilingual psychometric assessment systems which are free to users. The psychological instruments have been independently developed by Vivek Belhekar and collaborators outside the purview of M-OPC. The assessments include:
1. Mumbai University- Mental Health Screening Questionnaire (MU-MHSQ)
2. Mumbai University Personality Inventory (MUPI).
3. Mumbai University Interest Inventory (MUII).
4. Other measures.
Students’ mental health concerns often go unnoticed until they impact their academic performance, behaviour, or overall well-being. Early identification of emotional distress, stress, vulnerability, personality traits and career interests enables preventative and supportive interventions rather than crisis-driven responses. At the institutional level, colleges and universities need evidence-based insights to plan counselling services student support systems and well-being initiatives. This assessment programme meets these needs by combining individual feedback with aggregate institution-level psychological profiling.
For students, the assessment helps to:
• Understand their mental health status, emotional well-being, and stress levels
• Gain insights into their personality traits, strengths, and coping styles
• Identify interests and career preferences to support academic and career planning
• Receive clear, confidential, and actionable feedback through a detailed report sent directly to their email
For colleges and academic institutions, the assessment:
• Identifies students at high and moderate mental health risk, enabling timely support
• Provides guidelines for action, referral, and follow-up
• Generates a college-level psychological profile (for colleges with 500 or more participants), useful for planning counselling services, workshops, and policy decisions
The programme offers assessment in three key domains:
1. Mental Health and Well-being
2. Personality
3. Interests and Career Preferences
Both brief and detailed assessment versions are available, catering to institutional needs and student availability. To ensure accessibility and inclusivity, the questionnaires are offered in Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati and English. Each student receives a comprehensive individual report via email. This report explains the results in a student-friendly manner and suggests specific actions for both the student and the academic institution —wherever relevant.
The process is structured, transparent, and repeated annually to enable monitoring and improvement:
